Four-star Kelvin Gilliam commits to Oklahoma at CBS Sports headquarters


Kelvin Gilliam, a four-star prospect and one of the best defensive ends in the 2021 recruiting class in the country, announced his engagement in Oklahoma live Saturday night on CBS Sports HQ. Gilliam picked the Sooners over other finalists from Penn State and South Carolina.
Gilliam’s addition puts the Sooners ahead of Texas in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Recruitment Rankings. Oklahoma places Texas 14th nationally and first in the Big 12 Conference. The 247Sports Composite ranks Highland Springs High School, Virginia as a Four Star Rookie ranked 104th in the nation’s 2021 recruiting cycle. He’s also ranked No.7 among the weak defensive prospects of 2021, as well as No.3 overall in the state of Virginia for his class.
Gilliam is the latest cog in a strong 2021 Oklahoma defensive line class. The Sooners had already secured four-star edge defenseman engagements. Clayton Smith, Ethan Downs, and Nathan Rawlins-Kibonge, as well as three-star defensive tackles at junior college Isaiah Coe. Smith (96), Gilliam (104) and Downs (156) all rank in the top 160 nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Oklahoma’s focus on the defensive side of the ball in the 2021 recruiting class has resulted in a 14-player class that includes 10 defensive prospects. Smith, Gilliam, Four Star Cornerback Latrell McCutchin (122), and the Downs are the Sooners’ top four defensive commitments in this class.
Gilliam posted 40 offers from across the country during her recruiting. In addition to the three finalists mentioned above, the following Power Five conference programs have extended offerings to 6-foot-3, 250-pounds: Arizona State, Arkansas, Boston College, Cal, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kansas , State of Kansas, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, State of Michigan, Minnesota, State of Mississippi, State NC, North Carolina, Northwestern, Ole Miss, Pitt, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Virginia- Western.

Gilliam is part of a talented team from Highland Springs who finished the 2019 campaign with an 11-1 record and a second-round playoff appearance in the Virginia Class 5.
