Former CIA boss John Brennan questioned for eight hours by John Durham

Former CIA Director John Brennan testified for more than eight hours at CIA headquarters in Washington, where he was questioned by US attorney John Durham.Durham was tasked last April by the Justice Department with probing the origins of the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

President Trump has long argued that the FBI investigation was a witch hunt in the deep state. The grilling came just days after former FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith pleaded guilty to forging emails which he then used to seek a watch warrant against Trump’s foreign policy adviser, Carter Page.

Brennan, who led the CIA during President Obama’s second term, has become a fierce critic of Trump since leaving public service, frequently attacking the president in television news appearances. Trump responded by revoking his security clearance.

Nick Shapiro, a spokesperson for Brennan, said his boss was happy to participate and “not a subject or a target” in a criminal investigation. He added that Brennan was only questioned as a “witness to events under review.”

“Brennan welcomed the opportunity to answer Mr. Durham’s questions regarding a wide range of intelligence-related activities undertaken by the CIA ahead of the November 2016 presidential election, as well as the community’s assessment of the intelligence (ICA) released in early January 2017, ”Shapiro said.
