Florida soccer recruit: Corey Collier, four-star class 2021 defensive back, signs up for Gators

A 2021 Florida recruiting class already ranked in the national top 10 received another boost on Monday when four-star defensive back Corey Collier picked the Gators over LSU and Miami. Collier is the No. 3 in safety in the 2021 class, according to the 247Sports Composite ranking.

At 6-foot-2 and just 175 pounds, Collier has to fulfill, but he’s one of the top 100 prospects who is projecting himself as a Power Five starter, according to his 247Sports scouting report. Collier’s engagement is the 25th in Florida’s 2021 category, which now includes a dozen four-star prospects.

The Gators load up on defensive backs in the 2021 class. They landed their first five-star class entry Sunday from Collier’s high school teammate Jason Marshall and now have promises of six high school players in the class.

Collier and Marshall are teammates at Palmetto High School in Miami. The Gators have recruited Palmetto heavily over the past two years, and it’s clearly paying off. Collier’s 247Sports screening report, written by Miami Insider Andrew Ivins, reads:

A long frame with long limbs that don’t seem close to being fully developed physically as the body is still maturing. Should add muscle mass once in college weight training program, which will make it more explosive. A smart defender with good ball skills who knows how to take the right angles. Seems to be more comfortable at the back of the defense right now than he is in the men’s cover. Has the ability to run with most receivers once on the pitch, but has difficulty changing direction at times. Flashes physicality, but not the strongest tackle in space. Will lead the ally with confidence, however. Projects as a Power 5 level starter that will likely take a year or two to develop before seeing the ground. Has the potential to become a Day 3 draft pick.
