Five African stars who could still play for France

Following their exceptional performances during the 2019-2020 season, three uncapped Franco-African players have been named to Didier Deschamps’ last French team.Eduardo Camavinga, Houssem Aouar and Dayot Upamecano are all – in principle – eligible respectively for Angola, Algeria and Guinea-Bissau, but have clearly caught the attention of selector Bleus.

While a positive diagnosis of Covid-19 will deny Aouar – one of the heroes of Olympique Lyonnais’ race to the Champions League semi-finals – the chance to make his debut next month, the other two could presumably feature in France’s next matches.

If either were to play either Sweden or Croatia in the Nations League matches in September, they will be locked to France and will not be able to represent an African nation in the future.

France has long relied on talents of African origin, and these three seem to be the next “African” additions to the Blues team …

… But they will not be the last, in this feature film, Goal profiles five Franco-African starlets who hope to convince Deschamps that they deserve a place in the set-up of the Blues this season.
