Final Blockbuster will open for a summer sleepover

Tourists take photos outside the latest Blockbuster store

For millions of people, Saturday night in the 1990s and 2000s meant roaming your local Blockbuster for a movie, bringing it home, and relaxing on the couch.

Then the streaming took place and moviegoers could access the latest releases with one click.

Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy in the United States in 2010. Today, there is only one store left on the planet, in Oregon.

But now locals will have a chance for one last Blockbuster slumber party at the world’s last store.

Movie fanatics in Deschutes County, Oregon looking for a night of nostalgia will have the chance to be handed the store keys for a night of September 18-20.

The store – which will have three quarantine pods to ensure a social-distancing movie night – will be outfitted with a sofa bed, ottomans and pillows for visitors to enjoy ‘new stuff’ from the ’90s.

There will also be a boombox and retro video games for visitors to play at night.

And the price? About the same cost of a rented VHS from the 90s, at $ 4 (£ 3).
