“I’ll be going through student groups and I’m the potential carrier,” Green said.

He and his colleagues know that students need to get back to class, especially those with mental health issues and those who have difficult lives at home.

“We want to help our students deal with the pandemic, but we don’t think the government has done what is necessary to keep us safe,” he said. “We have to find ways to do it safely or else we’ll all be at home.”

Premier François Legault said that despite the views of doctors and scientists calling for tougher measures in schools, Quebec’s public health ministry told government students they did not need wear masks all day long when they are in class.

“Public health says it’s not necessary. Most jurisdictions don’t require it except in the hallway and when we enter and leave school, ”Legault said Tuesday. “Once we’re in the famous bubble (in the classroom), it’s not necessary. There will always be people who say that we are going too far, others that we are not going far enough.
