Facebook will allow employees to work from home until July 2021

“Based on advice from health and government experts, as well as decisions drawn from our internal discussions on these issues, we are allowing employees to continue to work from home voluntarily until July 2021,” said Thursday. Nneka Norville, a spokesperson for Facebook.

Norville also said Facebook (FB) gives employees $ 1,000 for “home office needs”.

Google also recently extended its domestic policy work until July 2021. And some companies, notably Twitter (TWTR), said their staff could work remotely indefinitely.

The announcement follows previous indications by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg that up to 50% of Facebook employees could work remotely in the next five to ten years.

Zuckerberg presented the idea to Facebook staff both as a matter of satisfying employee desires and also as an effort to create “wider economic prosperity.”“When you limit the hiring to people who live in a small number of big cities or who are willing to move there, that eliminates a lot of people who live in different communities, have different backgrounds, have different perspectives. Zuckerberg said on a livestream posted on his Facebook page in May.
