When it comes to choosing a bank or changing your current bank, it can be difficult to know where to start. There are several factors to consider, including overdraft rates, quality of customer service, and overall experience.

To help, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) today listed the best – and worst – banks and mortgage lenders for customer service, overdrafts and online services.

On top of that, the £ 500 interest-free emergency buffer offered to people affected by the pandemic is being scrapped.

The annual report asked more than 19,000 clients to rate their lender on their own personal experience.

Digital-only banks Monzo and Starling ranked first for quality of service and online banking, while lender First Direct took first place for overdraft.

Adam Land, CMA, said, “These leaderboards are an invaluable resource for customers who want to find the best service available to meet their needs. By being able to access data on the top performing banks and real estate companies and most easily compare providers, increasing competition to improve the overall quality of service.
