EastEnders spoilers follow.
EastEnders will return to our screens on Monday September 7 this has been confirmed.
The BBC soap opera has been on hiatus since June, after running out of regular episodes to air due to the coronavirus pandemic impacting the filming.
Although rumors have it that the show will return in September, the bosses have officially confirmed the return date today (August 13).
Like the rest of the UK, the people of Walford have adapted to a new way of life in the three months away from the screens, with the show exploring the aftermath of the lockdown.
As things slowly start to return to “normal” in Albert Square, it can only mean one thing: drama will follow.
EastEnders teased a selection of stories to keep an eye out for in the fall months, with Sharon Watts, Ian Beale, Ruby Allen, Denise Fox, Gray and Chantelle, and Mick and Linda among those taking center stage.
After buying the Queen Vic from the Carters, Ian and Sharon were forced to close the pub doors soon after.
With the pub back open, things are still not going well for Ian, who holds a dark secret about the death of teenager Dennis Rickman.
Viewers know that Dotty is the only other person to know the devastating truth and she soon decides (again) that Sharon deserves to know that, too.
The lockdown in Walford also proved particularly difficult for Chantelle, who had to isolate herself with her abusive husband, Gray.
EastEnders will also explore the topical impact of locked out domestic violence, which left Chantelle determined to get away from Gray once and for all.
Also in the lead at Walford, Ruby is adored by Martin but will be shaken up when the money begins to mysteriously disappear from her bank account.
Panicked over what to do, Ruby decides to take matters into her own hands – with dire consequences. Things get even more complicated when Stacey returns to Walford after a year of absence.
Meanwhile, Denise’s past will catch up with her after a shocking accident that could have “life-changing consequences” for her and another character.
There’s also a new chapter ahead for the Carters, as they adjust to life outside of The Queen Vic. But just as it looks like they’ve solved one problem, they’ll be up against another when a new face takes an interest in a family member.
As the huge secrets between Mick and Linda start to cause a breakdown in their relationship, will they be honest with each other or let their lies destroy them?
EastEnders also teased more trouble on the way for popular couple Ben and Callum. While Callum is stuck in his police job, he finds himself, unsurprisingly, torn between loyalties in his personal and professional life. What does this mean for Ballum?
Speaking of the return of EastEnders, Executive Producer Jon Sen said, “From the moment we turned the lights off in The Queen Vic, our ambition was to come back with a bang and this fall certainly will.
“As soon as Albert Square wakes up the drama returns to a rate and while working within the social distancing guidelines has certainly given us new challenges, I’m incredibly proud of what everyone has accomplished. The show is fantastic and we can’t wait for the ‘second series’ to begin… ”
EastEnders will return on Monday, September 7 and will continue four evenings per week. Each episode will last a slightly shorter duration of twenty minutes.
