Dr Alex George has recounted how he was ‘hanging on by a thread’ when he hit a troll who criticized him for being on social media after the tragic death of his brother Llyr.

The former Love Island star, 29, took to Instagram on Saturday where he shared a clip of an idyllic seaside setting.

But he was shocked when a follower criticized him for being on social media so soon after Llyr passed away last month, following a battle with mental health.

Alex took a screenshot of the exchange, in which the person replied to their seaside photo with the comment: “your brother is dead, quit social media.”

Sharing his anguish at the response, Alex wrote, “Imagine being that person. I’m holding on by a thread and you get people like that.

In his upcoming Instagram story, the doctor explained to his fans why he was on social media, while thanking them for their support during this difficult time.

He wrote: “I am honest and open with all of you. The good the bad and the ugly.

“There is so much that is not shared online, of course. So many of you are being so kind and texting me every day with good wishes.

He concluded, “I post often to let you know I’m still going strong x. “

Alex recently confirmed that his brother’s funeral took place on Monday.

Sharing a photo of himself with his arm around his brother, standing in front of a picturesque setting, Alex captioned the image, “Yesterday I said goodbye to my little brother Llŷr. It was the hardest day of my life.

Except it wasn’t a goodbye. Llŷr, your dream was to become a doctor, you will live that dream. Every patient I see, we will do it together, you and me ❤️

“Your favorite passion is the car, every time I drive I know you will be there laughing and smiling with me.

Before Monday’s funeral, A&E’s doctor wrote, “Life throws us into the depths sometimes, however, with family and friends we overcome the seemingly most overwhelming challenges. Today is for you Llyr.

The night before, Dr Alex shared an article that said, “Tomorrow will be the most difficult day of my life. We will pass for Llŷr and the rest of the family.

Llyr passed away just weeks before following in his older brother’s footsteps and starting medical school.

Bringing the tragic news last month, Alex wrote: “Can’t believe I’m actually writing this post.

“I lost my beautiful little brother to mental health. I love you so much Llŷr. The kindest and most caring soul.

“I was so proud that you started medical school next month, you would have been the most amazing doctor. We are in so much pain. No words can explain.

“As a family, we are devastated. We love you and miss you so much. Please rest in peace x Our boy.

Dr Alex’s brother is believed to have been 19 at the time of his death.
