President Donald Trump was briefly escorted from his press conference on Monday less than five minutes after it began after law enforcement fired on a suspect shooting at the White House.
“There was a shooting outside the White House and it seems very well under control,” President Trump said after returning to the room a few minutes later.
He thanked his security service for their swift action.
“I would like to thank the secret services for their always fast and very efficient work,” he noted.
He said he did not know the condition of the person who was shot and taken to hospital.
“There was a shooting and someone was taken to the hospital. I don’t know the person’s condition. It looks like the person was shot by the Secret Service, so we’ll see what happens, ”he said.
Shortly after he started speaking to the press, a Secret Service agent entered the press conference room to whisper in President Donald Trump’s ear.

President Trump said he took it he understood the suspect was armed but did not think it was necessarily him.
“It might have nothing to do with me,” he said.
He said officers took him to the Oval Office, which is just down the hall from the press conference room.
The president said he was surprised by what had happened but was not concerned about his personal safety.
“I was surprised,” he says. “They are quite unusual people but very, very professional. They do a fantastic job, as you know.
“The world has been a dangerous place. Very dangerous place and it will continue, I guess, for a while. I feel very safe with the Secret Service, they are wonderful people. They are the best of the best and they are highly skilled, ”he added.
He said he never considered canceling his media briefing.
“I didn’t even consider not coming back,” Trump said. “I asked if I could come back, they said to wait a bit.
And, with that, he reverted a little impatiently to what he was saying before being taken out of the room, talking about the rise in the stock market.
President Trump had barely started his press briefing when a Secret Service agent walked into the press conference room and whispered in the president’s ear. President Trump left the room with him.
Upon his return after an agent escorted him, President Trump said he never considered not returning to complete his media briefing.

Journalists in the briefing room said the room was locked, which is standard procedure in the event of a security breach.
Secret Service agents screen all reporters ahead of the event and lock the room before the President enters with agents standing at all of his entry points.
Police could be seen outside the press conference area, which is in the West Wing of the White House.
