STATEN ISLAND, NY – New York State has performed six million diagnostic tests for the coronavirus (COVID-19) since the start of the pandemic and reached its lowest number of hospitalizations since March 17 – with 556 people hospitalized Saturday, the government, “Andrew Cuomo said in a conference call with reporters Sunday.
According to the governor, the number of intensive care units has fallen to 143 and the number of people intubated has dropped slightly to 71.
“We have now performed over 6 million tests, and the numbers are pretty much where we want them to be, which is great news and indicates our plan is working,” Cuomo said. “However, context matters, and there are storm clouds on the horizon in the form of new cases across the country and a lack of compliance here in the state, and I urge New Yorkers to stay smart in New York; and local governments to properly apply state advice. “
There were three coronavirus-related deaths in New York reported on Saturday, bringing the total statewide to 25,167. No deaths were reported in New York on Saturday.
