COVID-19 hospitalizations in New York drop for third day in a row – CBS New York


ALBANY, NY (CBSNewYork / AP) – Coronavirus-related hospitalizations in New York City fell for a third day in a row, state officials reported on Saturday.Gov. Andrew Cuomo said there were 523 hospitalizations reported on Friday, a decrease of 31 from the previous day and the lowest total since March 17. There were 573 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 statewide a week earlier.


“Yesterday’s numbers – especially the new low hospitalization rate – continue to reflect the progress we have made during this pandemic, but we will continue to monitor the data and the alarming increase in cases across the country,” said a statement from the governor.

New York, an early pandemic hotspot, has been largely successful in controlling the virus recently. There were 734 new cases reported, or 0.83% of 88,668 tests.

There have been five additional deaths reported in New York City. The state’s pandemic death toll is over 25,200.
