Tracing the links between COVID-19 and crime

There have been numerous cases of crime caused by a pandemic in recent months. They include the man from Pennsylvania who engaged in a shootout with seven police officers for his refusal to wear a mask at a gas station store.

“He just wasn’t handling the pandemic well,” his lawyer explained.

Northeast of Toronto, a man was shot dead by police in July in a shooting also linked to wearing a mask. That same month, Corey Hurren was arrested with loaded guns after a pickup truck crashed outside the gates of Rideau Hall, where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lives. He said the pandemic was ruining him financially.
