BEVERLEY Callard has vowed to relearn to walk by the end of the year so that she can film her final scenes as Liz McDonald.
The actress, 63, has suffered excruciating pain and needs intense physical therapy after routine hip surgery gone awry.
She had to undergo a full hip replacement to repair her crumbled joint after her initial surgery and was worried about being in a wheelchair for life.
But having summoned the force for which her alter ego Liz is known, Beverley focuses on returning to soap.
She told the Mirror: “It’s the toughest fight of my life, but I’m determined to win it.
“I love to play with her [Liz] and she inspired me to want to get back on my feet so I can do it one last time.
Beverley suddenly disappeared from the soap opera six months ago, leaving fans confused.
But it was revealed yesterday that the hell of his surgery was the reason for his absence.
The aftermath of the operation was so traumatic and painful that Beverley feared her career was over.

She is now suing the hospital that performed the procedure because she claims she should never have had the initial surgery.
The consultant reportedly told her that her hip “collapsed” during the operation and that she ended up with “bones rubbing against the bones”.
A trauma surgeon friend then told him that his soft tissue tear could have been treated with injections rather than surgery.
Earlier this month, soap fans were furious after Beverley’s Liz McDonald was revealed to have already left the cobblestones – offscreen.
It was revealed that the bartender had moved to Spain in a hurry.
Her son Steve McDonald had a seizure amid the tragic illness of his son Oliver, and it was then that Liz’s exit was confirmed.
Oliver’s mother, Leanne, told him, “I don’t think it helps that your mother is in Spain either. ”
Steve replied, “No but I understand why she had to get out of here, but yeah, one less person to talk to I guess.” ”
But viewers are devastated and furious that an iconic character like Liz doesn’t get a full send off after 30 years.
One wrote: “What’s the script with Liz Macdonald in #corrie, I must have missed something. ”
The Sun Online actress has confirmed that Beverly had already filmed her final scenes in a story last month.
A source said at the time: “Liz’s time on the cobblestones is over.
“She wasn’t killed so there’s always potential for a comeback, but she’s definitely over for now. ”
Actress Beverley announced that she was stepping down from her role last year, but fans believed they were going to give the beloved character an emotional farewell.
Last year, Corrie boss Iain MacLeod teased Liz’s heartbreaking exit.
“She’s a tough woman, she’s Liz McDonald, so we want to reflect that.
“The idea – which is still in its early stages – is for Liz to try and do something heroic for her son as a result of this story I’m referring to for Steve and Tracy.
“Her efforts are probably going a bit wrong in a way that will corrupt her relationship with Steve, and ultimately determine that the best place for her is not in Weatherfield.”
