“I wonder why Lambton wouldn’t see the benefits,” Bradley said, especially Lambton Shores, which is home to Grand Bend and the 5,000 weekend tourists.

At Grand Bend, you may be forced to play frisbee on the beach, but there’s nothing not to wear a face mask.

Director Bill Weber, who is the mayor of Lambton Shores, as well as the deputy mayor, and 12 of 17 county councilors voted against a settlement, but for a recommendation from the health unit that people wear face masks at the interior.

He likes the term “smart masking” and people can use common sense and personal responsibility to wear them when necessary. The province, he said, should have taken the reins of face masks, not the municipalities.

“We are not against masks,” Weber said. “We support it, our medical officer of health supports it, and has been doing it from the start. That has always been the message.

“People need to be nice and people need to respect others. Guess this is my post, how can we do this best? ”

In London, we did it with a mask regulation. A month after the controversy, Mayor Ed Holder said he was proud of the city’s response.

The Middlesex-London health unit recommended indoor masks and “by creating its own bylaw I think this added to the weight of the decision (of the health unit) and at the same time raised the profile of ‘education,’ Holder said.

“If I am to be blamed, let me be blamed for doing the right thing. If the board is to be challenged, let the board be challenged to do the right thing.

Most Londoners, he said, understood that wearing a mask is not a big deal individually, but massive help collectively. Sarnia mayor says his city is seeing the same benefits.

So at those Port Huron floats on the river next weekend, please stay safe on your side of the border.

And, just in case you find yourself in Canada, bring a mask.
