Chris Froome feels on the “right path” for the Tour de France – Cycling

Chris Froome thinks he is on the “right path” to challenge the Tour de France.

The four-time Tour winner will participate in the race with Team Ineos for the last time before leaving to join Israel Start-Up Nation.

While there are questions about the dynamics at Ineos, with Tour winners Egan Bernal and Geraint Thomas also in the squad, Froome is feeling good.

“I feel like I’m on the right track for the Tour de France,” he said. Cycling News before the second stage of the Route d’Occitanie, which is his first race since the season was suspended in February.

“There is still a bit of work to be done, but it’s all part of the preparation for the Tour.

“The delay in major races has helped me take the next step in terms of getting back to my normal state. I think that given where we are now, with about a month before the Tour, I am on the right trajectory for this race. I am happy with my level. ”

Froome, who suffered several serious injuries in an accident last June, was not involved in the lead in two relatively flat opening stages of the Route d’Occitanie.

But he says he’s enjoying the return to racing and racking up miles in his legs as the season picks up.

“I loved it yesterday. It was so good to be back in a decent race, not only after the crash and coming back from an injury, but also after the whole COVID situation.

“It was so nice to be able to do what we spent months, months and months getting ready. Looking at the big picture, I also think from an individual’s mental health perspective that it’s good to be back.

“My legs felt good too. OK, it wasn’t an extremely difficult stage yesterday other than the heat but I felt surprisingly smooth on the wheels. “
