Chi Chi DeVayne dies: RuPaul’s Drag Race star dies at 34

Chi Chi DeVayne, who appeared in the eighth season of Course de dragsters de RuPaul, died at the age of 34.

DeVayne, real name Zavion Davenport, revealed in early August that she was diagnosed with pneumonia following a lung infection. After initially being released from hospital in July, she was readmitted on August 16.

In a video posted to her Instagram Story from her hospital bed, Davenport asked fans to pray for her.

Davenport’s death has been confirmed by World of Wonder, the production company behind Course de dragsters. They tweeted: “We are sorry to hear that Chi Chi DeVayne has passed away today. Her flirting spread a message of love and kindness that truly touched every person she met. Stay in power, Chi Chi.

A name of Course de dragsters LGBTQ + stars and media figures have expressed their grief.

Shea Couleé, who recently won the fifth season of Drag Race All-Stars, tweeted: “I am literally so devastated and ugly in my stomach. Wake me up when it’s all over. “

Season 1 alumni Ongina wrote, “Stay in Power Angel! Seriously one of the nicest people I have ever met. Zavion Davenport Chi Chi DeVayne you will be missed! “

Season 7 finalist Kennedy Davenport tweeted, “I’m so num right now my heart is broken in peace .. I couldn’t even see her.” I still love you chichi. My dancing angel.

Farrah Moan tweeted: “Chichi was hands down one of my favorite queens to work with. I first met her right after filming s9. We smoked the biggest blunt and she gave me some amazing advice that I will never forget. All my memories with her of the Christmas tours will forever be etched in my heart. Rest in power, sweet angel.

Baga Chipz, who competed on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2019, wrote: “Chi Chi was so nice to me. At one point, I was really low. I’m just sitting here in tears. RIP, beautiful angel. ”

Davenport, a Louisiana native, placed fourth in the eighth season of Course de dragsters in 2016, and spoke of the ‘change everything in [her] life “.

She would perform and tour in the following years, before returning to Course de dragsters for his third All stars season, where she placed seventh.
