Chelsea signs the young French Sarr

Sarr, a 21-year-old capable of playing at center defense or left-back, chose to leave Nice at the end of the 2019-20 season following the expiration of his contract. He has now joined Frank Lampard’s sides on a five-year contract, although he will spend the 2020-21 season on loan.

“The opportunity to sign Malang was one that should not be missed,” Chelsea manager Marina Granovskaia said on the club’s official website.

“He’s a great prospect and we’ll be watching him closely during his loan spell, hoping he’ll be back at Chelsea soon. We are very happy to welcome him to the club today. ”

Sarr, who has represented France at all levels from Under-16 to Under-21, has played 119 times for Nice in all competitions, scoring three goals.

The defender becomes Chelsea’s fourth signing in the current transfer window, following Ben Chilwell – who arrived from Leicester City on Wednesday – Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Brazilian mainstay Thiago Silva is expected to complete his transfer to Stamford Bridge with a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the coming days, while the Blues are also reportedly set to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.
