CHELSEA’s lawsuit against Kai Havertz got a boost after the Bayer Leverkusen star told his club he wanted to leave. The 21-year-old has been Frank Lampard’s main transfer target this summer after previously landing RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech.

The attacking midfielder has been given a price tag of £ 90million by the Bundesliga, who are not interested in a discount sale.

And now reports in Germany have claimed Havertz told Leverkusen he wanted to leave, with the club telling Chelsea to come up with a formal written offer for the player.

However, the clubs are believed to be fighting over the costs as they look to do business for one of Europe’s top-rated young strikers.

Havertz has two more years on his contract in Germany and Bayer knows they can expect to receive a lot less than their current asking price if they don’t let him go this summer.

The sticking point is how to structure the deal to appeal to all parties, but Havertz is keen to team up with international teammate Werner if he moves to Stamford Bridge.

Lampard wants to rebuild his squad ahead of the new campaign and could move up to three defenders after securing Havertz, with the signings of Werner (£ 48million) and Ziyech (£ 6million) already showing club intention .
