“When you get a call from a club that is so close to my heart, it is my club,” he said. “The opportunity to come back and try to be successful in my new role as manager was huge.”The process of bringing back the success he himself enjoyed at the club has at times become very straightforward. He reveals that Tammy Abraham’s first goal against Watford in November – created for him from Jorginho – came from a very different playbook.
“The transition from Jorgi to Tammy was something we had worked on in training, something that I had shown the players, something that I had tried to do during my playing days when I played with Didier Didier Drogba, ”Lampard said. “They succeeded.”
It wasn’t entirely straightforward, however, and for all adventures Lampard’s main result of his first season remains an early game against Sheffield United.
