Chelsea have discussed a free transfer for Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva.
Veteran defender Silva will leave PSG when his contract expires following Sunday’s Champions League final against Bayern Munich in Lisbon.

Frank Lampard made defensive reinforcements a priority as this has been a problem
The Brazilian has been offered to Chelsea and a possible move has been discussed with his representatives.
Silva would represent an ideal low-cost solution in manager Frank Lampard’s efforts to bolster his squad and a defense that scored 54 goals, the most in the Premier League top 10 last season.
Chelsea have already spent a lot to land forwards Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner and German starlet Kai Havertz is also hoping Chelsea can strike a deal to sign him from Bayer Leverkusen soon.
He’s already on a five-year contract and talks are underway between the clubs for £ 90million.
Other Chelsea targets, Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell, all-rounder Declan Rice of West Ham and Jose Gimenez of Atletico Madrid will all have hefty prices.
Silva has won numerous trophies in Paris and would add a big game experience at Chelsea
Thiago is hoping to secure a two-year contract at his next club after eight years at PSG, winning the title in seven of those seasons.
But there are reports that haggling over the length of his lucrative contract could sabotage a transfer.
The Brazilian is preparing to bid farewell to the champions of France in Sunday’s Champions League final and with no immediate plans for retirement he has been bought for his next move.
Chelsea have typically only offered one-year contracts to players over 30 and with the Brazilian turning 36 next month there may well be a reluctance to go against that policy to sign Silva. .
David Luiz and Willian, both now at Arsenal, both got exceptions for their contract offers and so it could be that Lampard’s desire to add a big game experience to his defense will make the case come true.

Chelsea are also said to be watching Brighton’s Lewis Dunk, valued at £ 40million, if a decision by Silva does not materialize.
Determined not to let talk of his future overshadow their Champions League campaign, Silva was shy when asked by the media what to do next.
Speaking this week, he said: “I’ve said a lot of times before I wanted to, that I wanted to finish [my career] here in Europe.
“A decision has been made, now things are calm in my head. It will be… another club, but my heart will stay here.
