Marvel Studios has reportedly picked Nia DaCosta to helm the next Captain Marvel 2 film. DaCosta is Candyman, Universal’s return to the horror franchise, which is currently set to open in theaters on October 16. “Although the studio met several people, DaCosta seemed to have the edge for a while even as she and others met Marvel boss Kevin Feige over the weekend,” according to Deadline.
Brie Larson will reprise her role as starring superhero Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel 2, which was scripted by WandaVision’s Megan McDonnell. The original 2019 film, directed by Anne Bowden and Ryan Fleck, introduced audiences to the children’s version of Monica Rambeau. In Marvel Comics, Monica Rambeau has adopted a number of superhero portrayals over the years, including that of Captain Marvel.
Actress Teyonah Parris plays adult Monica Rambeau in the Disney + WandaVision series, and she is also slated to be a part of Captain Marvel 2. Parris also stars in DaCosta’s Candyman.
While Captain Marvel 2 is targeting a July 8, 2022 release, it should be noted that Marvel’s entire Phase 4 release list has already been revised several times due to production delays caused by the pandemic of coronavirus.
