The Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) was called to report a large fire in Hyholmes, North Bretton, at 12:31 p.m. on Sunday.Firefighters discovered a huge fire in a building that affected the gas supply.

Crews have installed reels to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring properties, while a 100-meter cordon is in place.

The group’s commander, Danny Kelly, described it as “a pretty serious fire”.He said: “We have the police, ambulance, gas and electricity on site as well, who are working together to try to reduce and also prevent the leakage of gas, which is currently on fire.

“It’s a pretty serious fire right now. Firefighters protect surrounding properties.

“We evacuated around 80 people from the surrounding area.

“I would ask people in the general area to stay away.

“There is a lot going on for us at the moment, but we can assure you that we are doing everything possible to resolve the incident as quickly as possible. ”

A statement from the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘On Sunday August 16th at 12:31 pm crews were called to a fire at Hyholmes, North Bretton.

“The teams arrived to find a major fire in a building affecting a gas network.

“Firefighters are installing reels to prevent the fire from spreading to the neighboring property.

“A 100-meter cordon was put in place and around 90 residents were evacuated.

“Those who were evacuated were reported to Cresset in Bretton.”

Peterborough Police advised people to avoid the area and residents to keep windows and doors closed.

The force wrote on social media: ‘Officers are currently helping the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Services respond to a fire in Hyholmes, Bretton.

“A 120-meter cordon is in place and several properties have been evacuated as a precaution.

“Please avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed if you are nearby. ”
