Cam Newton will be tasked with mastering the New England Patriots’ seemingly complicated new playbook as he enters his first season with the organization.
Newton revealed on Friday that it was wide receiver Julian Edelman who gave him a header on the playbook.

“We were both excited to be on the phone with each other,” said the former NFL MVP, according to NBC Sports Boston. “Then all of a sudden he just said, ‘Hey brother, that’s math.’
“He said it and it was just funny. From that 15-minute conversation, that’s the only thing I just remembered: the math. ”

Newton said the playbook, for him, is all about soccer.
“At the end of the day, football is still football and you just can’t overdo it than it already is. Josh (McDaniels) has been there every stop, as has (quarterback coach) Jedd (Fisch). I just hammered. All the quarters have tried to learn this whole system of what it is ”

After a long offseason, Newton has finally found a home with the Patriots. He will still have to avoid Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer for the starting position.
