Millions of people between the ages of 50 and 70 could be told to stay at home as the government struggles to avoid a second national lockdown, according to reports.

Boris Johnson is said to have organized a “war games” session with Chancellor Rishi Sunak on Wednesday to explore options for keeping the economy open during a second wave.

It comes after the prime minister was forced to curb national easing measures and reintroduce lockdown restrictions in northwestern areas following a surge in infections.

Meanwhile, ministers have abandoned the commitment to test all nursing home residents regularly throughout the summer due to “unexpected delays,” reported The Sunday Times.
