The Big 12 board has announced that Conference football programs will play a “9 + 1” schedule for the 2020 season, featuring nine conference games and one home opponent without a conference.
The start of Conference games will be solidified in the coming weeks, with a start scheduled between mid-September and the end of September, in the hope that non-conference games will be played before the start of league games.
The model also gives the Conference the flexibility to bring the Dr Pepper Big Championship game back December 12 to 12.e or 19e.
“I want to salute the work of our University Presidents and Chancellors, Athletics Directors, Coaches, Medical Advisors and Administrators who have worked tirelessly and collaboratively during these extraordinary times,” said Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “We believe this change offers the best opportunity for the future. However, we will undoubtedly need to be flexible as we progress through the season in order to meet the challenges that lie ahead.
