Round 1: The two men turn cautiously and throw jabs. Salter gets an indent and is on top between Kapel’s legs, trying to pass the knees to control the side. He chose instead to get up at 1:27 am and let go of a right hand. Kapel catches one foot and cuts the distance. Salter got a double inning at 2:04 and again looked to pass. Kapel closes guard. Salter keeps trying to jump to the side and eventually gets half the guard. Salter switches to the full edit at 3:20. Kapel tries to control the wrists to avoid damage. He sweeps up and Salter is at the bottom, but he’s going to choke in a triangle on his back and uses it to get back up. 10-9 Salter.
Round 2: Kapel provides the pressure before early. Salter responds with a heavy left hand then pulls Kapel into the fence, where the double leg with a travel aid puts him on his back again. Salter contorts his entire body until only his right knee is in half-guard, then he jumps in full mount at 1:33. Kapel narrowly avoids a starter in a triangle of arms. Kapel tries and fails to knock down Salter and Salter again goes for the arm triangle. Salter lets go and the fighters work to position themselves chest to chest. Kapel fails to knock him down at 2:52. Salter continues to pound on the ribs with his right hand, with his left arm wrapped around Kapel’s head. Another failure to shake Salter at 4:17. Another 10-9 round for Salter.
Round 3: Kapel is once again the pressing man within reach early. Salter holds him at a distance with his left hand. They pat gloves after a stray kick to the groin and Salter immediately knocks him down again. Kapel tries and fails to stop Salter from taking the full mount at 1:29. It’s a mirror image of the last turn from there with the left arm clutching Kapel’s head and the right hand increasing damage. The triangle of the arm is finally pressed and Kapel taps at 3:11.
Final Result: John Salter via Submission (Triangle Arm Starter) 3:11 Round Three.
