Bayern Munich vs Chelsea score: Lewandowski scores twice as German giants advance to Champions League quarterfinals

Bayern Munich advance to the Champions League quarter-finals after beating Chelsea on Saturday. Bayern Munich won the second leg, 4-1, with Robert Lewandowski scoring twice. The Bundesliga winners entered the second leg with a 3-0 advantage, so they ended up with a 7-1 overall advantage over their Premier League opponent. The Germans were able to capitalize on their first leg momentum from the start as Lewandowski, the competition’s best scorer, got a penalty in the 10th minute and converted the attempt. Bayern added goals throughout with Ivan Perisic scoring in the 24th minute and Corentin Tolisso adding to the scorecard fresh off the bench in the 76th minute. Lewandowski signed the 13th goal of his Champions League campaign in the 84th minute.

Bayern will face Barcelona in the quarter-finals.

Chelsea were without several starters for the game, including star winger Christian Pulisic and suspended players Marcos Alonso and César Azpilicueta, and had to deal with an already significant goal deficit.

Manager Frank Lampard was able to use N’Golo Kante and made the questionable choice to keep him throughout the drubbing. Lampard only made one sub-game throughout the game, which came in the 81st minute as Olivier Giroud replaced England’s lone scorer, Tammy Abraham.
