Arsenal won race for Willian, Everton showed late interest

The winger is set to leave Chelsea and trade with his London rivals.

Arsenal will complete Willian’s signing on a three-year contract worth £ 100,000 a week, according to ESPN.

The 31-year-old has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks and the ongoing saga appears to be drawing to a close.

The ESPN report also claims Everton has shown interest in winger Carlo Ancelotti looking to strengthen his squad.

Arsenal, however, held a substantial lead in the race and now appear to be getting closer to the finish line.

Moving to Arsenal will mean he has less than the £ 138,000 a week he earned at Chelsea, which will be music to the ears of Gunners fans.

It seems likely the Brazilian will have some lucrative bonus clauses in his contract and maybe the big draw is the three-year element (Telegraph).

Chelsea had offered Willian a two-year contract, but the assurance of another year clearly had an impact on the player’s thinking process.

Willian is a 69-caps Brazilian international and has scored nine goals and recorded seven assists in 2019/20.

Arsenal are hoping to strengthen several areas of their squad this summer and Willian would be a quality signing to kick things off.

The Gunners were a mess in some games last season and as brilliant as Willian can be he certainly can’t play in the back!

The next step for Arteta has to be a compound addition to his bottom line and these efforts will surely be quickly stepped up as the ink dries on the Willian chord.
