Emiliano Martinez was overcome with emotions as Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 to win their record-breaking 14th FA Cup trophy at Wembley on Saturday.

The Argentina goalkeeper endured a difficult 10-year spell at the club and, after six loans, finally got his first real chance at the squad following Bernd Leno’s injury in the loss to Brighton in June.

Martinez seized the opportunity with both hands and proved to be one of the Gunners’ best players, saving his team’s blushes on several occasions.

The 27-year-old capped his excellent form on the side with a long-awaited trophy and struggled to put into words what it meant for him and his family.

“I can’t really speak,” Martinez told the BBC as captain and match winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrived to comfort him.

‘I told him [Aubameyang] before the game, you will win us the game because you are our captain. And he did.

“As far as my family is concerned, I cannot speak.

Bernd Leno could struggle to return to the squad on his return from injury next season and Gunners legend Ian Wright fears the Argentinian will not want to continue as No 2 and may be tempted to walk away of the Emirates.

The former England striker told the Kelly and Wrighty Show last week: “When you go up to a No 2 the first thing you do is worry because you think, ‘Has he had enough matches? Will he be able to cope with the pressure? ”

“Everyone has been talking about Emi and how good he is, but I didn’t realize how good he was because I didn’t see him enough.

“I’ve seen him in some Cup games but he’s in command, he’s making great saves, he’s good on the pitch, he’s got everything for a No.2.

“What scares me now with him is that when Bernd Leno comes back and he’s in good shape, why would he want to continue as No 2 when he played at that level as No ° 1?

“He’ll definitely want to go and be a No.1 now. ”

‘What scares me is you look at someone like Frank [Lampard] and you look at what Chelsea is doing, you’re just like, ‘Do you know something? Can we eliminate it?

“That’s what worries me, just because you look at what he’s done and how he’s playing, he’s better than Kepa now.

“I think he’s probably better than Bernd Leno if I’m to be totally honest from what I’ve seen. I would be emptied [if Martinez left]».
