Armed police rush on Ryanair flight landing at Stansted amid “suspicious items in the toilet”


RAF jets were scrambled this evening to intercept a Ryanair flight which was surrounded by armed police at Stansted airport following a “security threat”.Two typhoons were sent to intercept the flight, which left Vienna, Austria, around 6:15 p.m. and landed in the UK just over an hour later.

A woman who said she was on board said on Twitter: “Armed police have taken two men and some suspicious items! ”

The objects were reportedly found in the aircraft toilet.

She added, “Our plane is being held by armed police everywhere. They told us to put on our seat belts.

“They found some suspicious items in the toilet and called the police. Everything seems to be going well now. It was scary!

“The police got on board and took two men.”

RAF Typhoon jets called in to intercept the plane

An airport spokesperson told Mirror Online that police were called after an incident on a plane, but did not provide more details.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “The crew of a Ryanair flight from Vienna to London Stansted this evening (August 30) have warned of a potential threat to onboard safety.

“In accordance with procedures, the captain informed the UK authorities and proceeded to London Stansted, where the aircraft landed normally and taxied to a remote stand where passengers disembarked safely.

“Passengers at London Stansted awaiting departure for Vienna were transferred to an emergency plane to minimize the delay of their flight. It is now the business of the local police ”.

Essex Police have been contacted for comment.

An RAF spokesperson said: “Typhoon fighter jets from RAF Coningsby were launched this evening to intercept a civilian plane.

“The plane was safely escorted to Stansted. “
