Another COVID-19 death in Alberta, 77 new cases


Alberta reported another death from COVID-19 on Tuesday and 77 new cases of the disease.The death toll from the pandemic in Alberta is now 235.

The most recent deceased was an 80-year-old man in the Edmonton area who was not in long-term care. The case was not linked to an epidemic.

As of Tuesday, there were 1,134 active cases in the province, down 38 from the previous day.

The latest regional breakdown of active cases was:

  • Zone d’Edmonton: 608
  • Calgary area: 340
  • North Zone: 134
  • South zone: 27
  • Central zones: 20
  • Unknown: five

Across Alberta, 46 people were being treated in hospitals for the disease, including seven patients in intensive care beds.

The labs performed 8,440 tests on August 24, according to the latest government update.

The city of Edmonton, with 547 cases, remains under a COVID-19 watch. This status comes into play when a region has more than 10 cases and more than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Edmonton’s current case rate is 53.5 per 100,000.
