Anders Lee will not receive additional discipline for Nicklas Backstrom’s shot

The Washington Capitals were furious at Anders Lee’s blind blow that injured Nicklas Backstrom after Game 1 on Wednesday.John Carlson called the unsuspecting success “really dirty”, TJ Oshie described it as “extremely late” and “cheap”, and Todd Reirden called it “predatory”.

Despite the Capitals’ protests, the NHL Player Safety Department will not discipline Anders Lee. Athletic’s Arthur Staple reported the news on Twitter.

Lee received a two-minute interference penalty during the game and was challenged to fight by John Carlson and Tom Wilson.

Islanders head coach Barry Trotz called the move a “hockey game”.

“I don’t know if Nick was ready or not,” Trotz said. “Anders is a strong guy, the blow was done and they responded, he and Wilson fought and that was probably the end. We will see. ”
