Amber Riley pays tribute to Naya Rivera on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’


Amber Riley paid a moving tribute to her “Glee” co-star Naya Rivera on Thursday’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live! The actor and singer, whose artist nickname is Riley, performed his new track titled “A Moment” in honor of Rivera, who died in July. Rivera was 33 years old.

Welcoming the day after the sports world shut down and right after Donald Trump accepted his nomination for re-election to the RNC, Howery shared a powerful monologue, which highlighted the realities of black life in America. Howery spoke about the coronavirus pandemic, the importance of voting and his belief in the need to disband the police, saying: “This funding can go elsewhere, especially if you’re not going to use the funding to protect or do your job properly.”

The actor and comedian also defended Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown and Jacob Blake, who survived seven bullets by police in Kenosha, Wis., Earlier this month.

Riley’s performance came later in the series, hailing her co-star on the hit musical series Fox. After Rivera passed away, Riley posted on Instagram that her former co-star was her “favorite duet partner,” writing, “I love you. I miss you. I have no words at the moment, just a lot of feelings. Rest in peace Angel, and know that your family will never have to worry about a thing.

Rivera was best known for her groundbreaking role as Santana Lopez in the hit musical series Fox, while Riley played Mercedes Jones. One of the pair’s most memorable duets was the “Rumor Has It” / “Someone Like You” mashup in the show’s third season.
