AMAZON is expected to open up to 30 physical stores in the UK – and they won’t have any checkouts.
The Sunday Times reports how the online retail giant has made deals to launch more than 10 Amazon Go convenience stores.
The newspaper says Amazon is also in talks to open 20 more stores, though those talks are said to be still ongoing.
Amazon is reportedly interested in opening stores near transportation hubs, so it can target busy commuters who need to pick up items on the go.
The move would mark the first Amazon Go stores on the UK’s High Street, although the US-based company has yet to make an official announcement.
Amazon was reportedly for the first time in talks to open a physical store in London in March 2020.
At the time, it was suggested that the online retailer would open an Amazon Go branch in Notting Hill, west London, later this year.
This comes two years after Amazon opened its first Amazon Go store in Seattle, Washington, in 2018.
In the United States, every store is made up of fresh food and is completely cashier-less.
Instead of cashiers, Amazon keeps track of what you buy with a series of cameras.
Buyers must first scan their unique barcode on their Amazon Go app to access an Amazon Go store.
Customers are then monitored by cameras, which keep tabs on what they put in their shopping cart.
Unless you hand it over, you’ll be billed for it – that means you might also find yourself getting the bill back if your friend asks you to hand over an item.
Buyers are then billed based on the items they are carrying when they leave the store – you won’t need to hand over money as your account will be automatically billed.
You will receive an email receipt from Amazon detailing everything you have purchased once you have completed your store.
The retailer keeps employees on the shop floor to help customers and replenish stock.

Reports suggest that the online giant has 25 Amazon Go stores in the United States, including Seattle, Chicago, New York and San Francisco.
Amazon declined to comment when contacted by The Sun today.
Tesco first tested a fully cashless store in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, in 2018.
Sainsbury’s also launched a cashless grocery store in 2019 – at its branch, customers paid with their smartphones.
