Alberta reports 84 new cases of COVID-19, one more death


There are 84 new cases of COVID-19 and one more death in Alberta, according to the latest figures from Alberta Health.This brings the total number of deaths in the province to 221.

The latest death was a woman in her sixties from the Southern Zone. She was not living in a long-term care facility.

No new deaths were reported at Good Samaritan Southgate care center on Friday. So far, 29 residents have died from the outbreak at the health center.

The total number of active cases in the province was 1,036 as of Friday’s update, the same as the day before.

Forty-eight people are hospitalized, including 13 in intensive care.

The Edmonton area continues to have the most active cases than any other area in the province.

The regional distribution of active cases in the province was:

  • Edmonton area: 497, up 22 from Thursday.
  • Calgary area: 305, down from nine.
  • North zone: 101, below.
  • Central Zone: 81, down from Sep.
  • South Zone: 45, down from Sept.
  • Unknown: 5, up to two.

A total of 10,796 Albertans have recovered from the disease.

The province has performed 8,199 tests in the past 24 hours. There were 801,360 tests performed in Alberta.
