Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was not in contact with Frank Lampard ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final with Arsenal, the Blues manager has revealed.

Lampard helped Chelsea to a top-four finish in their debut season after beating Wolves on Sunday, but admitted Abramovich had not made contact since.

However, the Chelsea legend insists he doesn’t call in from the Russian owner to do his job and has a close relationship with director Marina Granovskaia.

“We haven’t been in contact,” Lampard said in his pre-match press conference. “There is nothing in there. My job is to work as well as I can.

“After the Wolves result and coming into the top four, which we were aiming for and achieving, I don’t need a phone call, message or recognition like that.

“My job when we came in fourth was to think about how we would rank higher than fourth next year and close the gap. And it will be the same regardless of the outcome against Arsenal, whether we win or lose.

Football stadiums across Europe remain empty due to the coronavirus pandemic as government social distancing laws ban fans inside venues, resulting in all matches being held behind closed doors.

“I feel the support of the owner. I felt it from the moment I took the job and I have felt it for many years as a player. I am happy if I can try to make him happy.

“I think last Sunday was a step forward and I want to keep taking those steps.

‘I have a very close relationship with Marina and with [technical advisor] Petr [Cech]. This relationship has been really good and it feels like a real strength to me, that I can talk to them regularly and we are united on how the club is going.

“At the end of the day, it will all go through the owner. It is his club, his prerogative and we are working towards the objectives and standards of this club. I’m a big boy, I’m in this business, I know there are demands.

“I will obviously always be welcome to take any call or have any meeting. Because it’s my life and I’m obsessed with how we can get to where we want to be.

“I don’t need these calls, but I’ll be there if they’re there to be received.
