19 New York bar, Sunday restaurant violations bring weekend total to 79

NEW YORK CITY – Bars and restaurants in New York and Long Island continue to receive violations from a state task force enforcing the governor’s decrees on the coronavirus.Nineteen violations were pronounced on Sunday, Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Monday. Of these, seven were in the Bronx, three in Queens, two in Manhattan, one in Brooklyn, and six in Suffolk County.

The violations are in addition to the 60 violations that were issued Friday and Saturday, bringing the weekend’s total to 79. There were 34 violations Friday night and 26 more violations on Saturday, according to the governor’s office.

Cuomo has cracked down on bars and restaurants that allow overcrowding or don’t follow mask rules in a bid to keep the state’s COVID-19 numbers low.

“We must protect the extraordinary progress made by New Yorkers,” he tweeted on Sunday morning. “What we do is work. We have to stay smart and careful. ”

Of the 54,002 tests reported to the state on Sunday, only 476 were positive for a positivity rate of 0.88%. The total number of hospitalizations has fallen to 535 and two deaths have been reported statewide.
