“It’s shocking, there is no other word. It is not only a crime against the girl, it is a crime against humanity in itself that deserves all condemnation, ”tweeted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday. He called for men to be “brought to justice”.
The teenager had been out drinking with friends in Eilat last week before meeting at the hotel, where she used a bathroom, according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
She was then reportedly taken to a hotel room and raped several times – while some of the men filmed footage on their cell phones. Police said the teenager’s friend tried to help but failed.
A suspect told police 30 men had sex with the girl, but claimed it was consensual, The Times of Israel reported.
The suspect, who is around 20, was arrested on Wednesday after police found video footage of the alleged attack and messages to the girl on his phone. He claimed someone else had used his phone, authorities said.
A second suspect, also 20, was arrested Thursday morning.
The victim reported the alleged rape last Friday, sending shock waves across the country.
The country’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz this week condemned the alleged assailants.
“The police investigation is still ongoing, but it is important that I convey a message to those who participated or testified in this case or others: the only thing that you have proven is how depravity of your soul and of your moral you are capable, ”He tweeted.
“To the complainant, it is important that I say: my heart is with you, you are not alone.”
The identity of the two arrested men has not been made public.
