WINDSOR, Ont. – Health officials in the Windsor-Essex area say they have ordered a work stoppage on a farm experiencing a major COVID-19 outbreak.

The local public health unit reports that 191 cases of virus were recorded at the farm over the weekend.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed has ordered the farm to ensure that workers are isolated and stop working as a result of the epidemic.

Ahmed said targeted screening efforts are continuing on farms in the region.

The Windsor-Essex region also reported nine new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, including seven in the agricultural sector.

Ontario has not released province-wide COVID-19 figures on Canada Day, but will resume its daily report on Thursday.

This report from The Canadian Press was first published on July 1, 2020.
