Should you care who Ghislaine Maxwell is pictured in? Probably not, since Jeffrey Epstein’s socialite and confidant is photographed with just about everyone.
But that doesn’t mean you won’t be captivated, like thousands have done, by an Instagram account dedicated to showing you every celebrity and powerful person photographed with Maxwell, who last week was arrested for drug dealing.
So far, the details of the Epstein saga have felt closer to the soap opera than real life: an influential and well-connected financier is arrested on charges of sex trafficking that could involve some of the wealthiest and most powerful in the world, but dies before is tried; the cause of death is determined to be suicide, but his lawyers allege a criminal act; meanwhile, a longtime sound confidant (Maxwell) is hiding; and a member of British royalty – a prince no less! – becomes involved after a woman claims to have been trafficked by Epstein and coerced into sex with Prince Andrew when she was a minor. Finally, Maxwell is found hiding in a New Hampshire retreat and arrested for sex trafficking and two counts of perjury, for allegedly helping Epstein procure and traffic underage girls.
Of course, every step of the way, people have been looking forward to the next plot beforehand. And seeing so much started with a photo – of Prince Andrew, Maxwell and his accuser Virginia Giuffre at Maxwell – it makes sense that people now eagerly browse an Instagram account like this, looking for clues.
“Ghislaine prepared to sneak at big names to save herself,” reads a screenshot of a tabloid title in a recent story from the celebswithghislaine account, intensifying the drama. Photos of Maxwell show her posing with a large number of Hollywood names, including Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein, as well as politically powerful: she is photographed at the wedding of Chelsea Clinton; with Melania and Donald Trump at a party; get off a plane with Bill Clinton; and with Michael Bloomberg in another photo. She was also photographed with Piers Morgan, Elon Musk, Naomi Campbell, Michael Caine – even Princess Diana. Just when you thought you couldn’t name anyone else, here it is with the character of Disney Pluto.
What should we do with this celebrity collection? Who knows. Maxwell may have wooed the elites of this world; it may be the best photo bomber of all time; or maybe, just maybe, it’s proof that none of us are detectives, we’re all very bored.
