Noel Whelan admits being alarmed by the confusion of Leeds United defender Ben White in the win against Barnsley.
Addressing exclusively to Football insider Former Leeds forward deputy editor Russell Edge says Thursday’s ‘rambling’ performance was the worst he has seen the Whites have seen all season.
Despite only three shots against Barnsley’s 12 at Elland Road, Marcelo Bielsa’s men took the win with a goal against his own side of Michael Sollbauer.
Whelan insisted that the presentation was far from the Leeds United performances he had watched all season and drew attention to star defender White for a moment.
Whelan a dit Football insider: “To be honest, Barnsley did to us what we normally do at Elland Road teams. We did not seem to have cohesion, we were disjointed, sloppy, lethargic sometimes too.
“We kind of ran out of ideas on the ball – it was basically the hoof on the pitch and it was coming back to us. I’m not sure I had Ben White in this position (worked out), I don’t think anyone really knew where they were playing for five minutes of the game.
“You could see Ben White looking at Marcelo Bielsa with his arms in the air, then Berardi entered this position, he went to the right rear, Berardi then went to the left rear – so it was very different from Leeds United.
“Usually we’re more organized than that, it just doesn’t seem to have happened. It was very different from a Leeds performance, probably the worst display I’ve seen of the whole season.
Leeds are only one point away from closing promotion to the Premier League and could go up without kicking the ball if West Brom or Brentford don’t win their matches.
The Whites’ next game, which is the penultimate game of the season, sees them face Derby County away from home.
In other Leeds United news, Whelan made a big claim about West Brom’s clash against Huddersfield on Friday.
