news worldFrench health authorities are making COVID-19 tests available free of charge without a prescription, as they closely monitor an increase in infections after the lockdown measures are lifted. Nasal swab PCR tests, which detect COVID-19 infections caused by the novel coronavirus, will be available free of charge on request under government orders released on Saturday. “We would not describe this as a second wave, but what is clear is that for several days we have seen a noticeable increase in the number of confirmed cases, which had been down for 13 weeks,” said the minister of Health Olivier Veran an interview published in the Sunday edition of Parisien. France has recorded 30,192 deaths attributed to the coronavirus, out of a total of 180,528 cases of the disease, according to statistics released on Friday. The number of new daily infections rose above 1,000 for a second day in a row – around their daily level when lockdown measures were relaxed in May, after two months of lockdown.
