Two new cases of COVID-19, another death in the region


Friday morning, Waterloo Region public health reported two new cases of coronavirus.One results from community transmission, while the other is linked to travel.

There was also another death and it did not occur in a retirement or long-term care home.

119 deaths are now linked to the virus locally, 95 are linked to epidemics.

There have been a total of 1,351 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region since March.

Two others were resolved, bringing the total to 1,185.

47 files are active, one less than Thursday.

There is only one outbreak at PeopleCare Hilltop Manor in Cambridge, where a staff member tested positive.

As of Friday, the region is also updating the tests – more than 3,000 more were completed, bringing the total number of tests completed to more than 44,000.

The region of Waterloo was one of the 24 regions authorized to enter the third stage of the province’s economic reopening on July 17.

  • 37,274 cases in total (111 new)
  • 33,162 resolved
  • 2,746 (nine new)
