JACK RODWELL making an appearance in the Premier League is the last shock of 2020.
Fans were blown away when he entered the second half of Sheffield United’s draw with Burnley.
It was Rodwell’s first Premier League appearance since May 2017 when Sunderland lost 5-1 to Chelsea.
The midfielder only found himself on the winning side once in his previous 27 high flying appearances.
And the fans rubbed their eyes when Chris Wilder put him in place of Chris Basham.
A Twitter user said, “Jack Rodwell on a Premier League soccer field. 2020 raises the bar higher every day. ”
Another fan added: “Fair play towards Jack Rodwell… he’s been on leave since 2012.”
Meanwhile, one said, “Jack Rodwell has just come for Sheffield United. I didn’t even know he was there, I thought he was living on a beach in the Bahamas these days. ”
And one said, “Well, all of them have been deceived now, Jack Rodwell played a competitive football game at the Prem. Cancel 2020. ”
Rodwell, 29, joined the Blades on a short-term contract until the end of the season in January after leaving Blackburn Rovers.
The former British under-18 skipper joined Manchester City for £ 12 million in 2012 after climbing the ranks at Everton.
But he left Etihad for a move to Sunderland in 2014 after playing only 26 times in two seasons.
After a disastrous spell with them, he joined Blackburn in a desperate attempt to revive his career.
But Sunday’s clash with Burnley was not his first appearance in a Sheffield United jersey.
The 29-year-old also participated in an FA Cup clash with Fylde in January.
