Toronto’s match with DC United was originally scheduled for Friday before being postponed to Sunday.

“Major League Soccer has announced that the DC United vs. Toronto FC today has been postponed and will be postponed, “said a statement from the league. “MLS will announce details of the rescheduled game later today.

“According to the health and safety protocols of the league, the clubs are tested the day before each match. The results of yesterday’s tests for DC United and Toronto FC produced a first unconfirmed positive COVID-19 case for one player and an inconclusive test for another player. ”

“Due to the arrival time of the clubs in Orlando, the protocol for the league was to retest the two teams this morning and wait for the results of these tests before playing the game. ”

“Major League Soccer will continue to prioritize the health and safety of all participants in the MLS is Back tournament when making these decisions. ”

The tournament has been struggling since FC Dallas pulled out due to a high number of positive COVID-19 tests, before Nashville SC did the same. Sporting Kansas City also confirmed that it had a positive test on Friday, but is scheduled to play its first tournament game Sunday night against Minnesota United.

MLS Assistant Commissioner Mark Abbott said the tournament can continue.

“The most prudent call was to postpone the game,” said Abbott during a conference call early Sunday. “We think the tournament can be held safely. Otherwise, we would make a decision. ”

So far, six games have ended in the tournament, in which group stage points count towards the regular season standings. The opening game saw Orlando City win a 2-1 victory over Inter Miami CF on Wednesday, with the final set for August 11.
