About three hours later, another boater found his child sleeping alone in the boat. The yachtsman informed the authorities, who immediately began the search for Rivera using helicopters, drones and diving teams.
The child is said to be unharmed and to have told investigators that he and his mother were swimming, but his mother never got back into the boat.
It was not immediately known how the child got back into the boat.
“There are a lot of challenges in a tank of this size, sometimes with visibility,” said Sheriff Captain Eric Buschow. “I don’t have any details yet on the depth of the area where the boat was found or on the conditions they encounter there. “

On Wednesday evening, the authorities worked to reunite the child with the members of his family. The search for Rivera continued on Thursday at dawn, the sheriff’s office reported. The lake was closed during the search.
