All eyes were on Melania Trump when she joined her husband in the July 4 celebration at Mount Rushmore – but perhaps not for the reasons she hoped.

As President Trump took the stage in South Dakota to deliver a rallying address to the 7,500 Independence Day attendees, Twitter users looked at the eye-catching Alexander McQueen dress from the First Lady.

Several people said on Twitter that Alexander McQueen’s $ 2,485 appeared to be that Trump scribbled on the fabric with a marker.

“Donald Trump was bored and drew Melania’s white dress everywhere with a Sharpie on Air Force One,” the user wrote.

“Could someone take that Sharpie away from him!” Now he’s drawing on Melania’s dress, ffs, ”said another.

Another wrote: “Melania wore a solid white dress for her evening in North Dakota and before they left, Trump took a sharp marker. “

Some users have compared the swirling doodle designs to the infamous “Sharpiegate”, when Trump appeared to be using a large Sharpie to modify an official map of Hurricane Dorian in September.

“Apparently Trump tried to trace a hurricane path over Melania’s dress,” wrote one woman,

“It looks like Melania also needs #IndependenceFromTrump,” wrote one.

“He left and scribbled with the sharpie all over his dress now. I thought they took his Sharpie after the hurricane incident?

The dress reminded some people of Melania's controversy:

A number of people took the opportunity to recall other trendy styles from Melania, including her controversial “I don’t really care, do I?” jacket she wore in 2018.

She received a heavy lash on the coat because she donned an immigration establishment while her husband was fiercely lambasted for his policies on the subject.

Although users have jokingly emphasized childish scribbles, Paper Magazine reports that the design was born out of a collaboration between McQueen and students from Central Saint Martins in London.

Students drew sketches of “dancers” on a long piece of paper during a cartoon lesson led by fashion illustrator Julie Verhoeven.

The entire McQueen staff then embroidered by hand and sewed the sketches on a linen dress.
