A total of 1055 Scottish Premiership players and staff were tested in the second round

No Scottish Premiership footballer tested positive for coronavirus last week, the Joint Response Group confirmed.

A total of 1055 players and staff from the Scottish Premiership were tested from 6 to 12 July after a positive result last week on a sample of 936.

The Premiership received the green light on Friday to return next month, with the Joint Response Group receiving written approval from the Scottish government to start the high-profile season the weekend of August 1st.

Premiership clubs were also able to play rebound matches on club training grounds and friendly matches inside stadiums with immediate effect.

A statement reads as follows: “The Joint Response Group can confirm that between Monday July 6 and Sunday July 12, a total of 1,055 Scottish Premiership players and team staff have been tested for Covid-19, with no positive result recorded.

“The Joint Response Group will provide this information each week as part of its return to football strategy and for the integrity and transparency of the competition.

“Due to medical confidentiality, no specific details will be provided on the people tested. ”

The Aberdeen player who previously tested positive for Covid-19 returned to the club’s training ground last Wednesday.
